Charlotte Jane

Jazz Vocals & Violin

Charlotte Jane began her professional career as a child, touring NZ with the lead role in the acclaimed musical, The Secret Garden. Since then, she has had an incredibly rich and diverse performance history, from large crowds to cruise ships, theatres to outdoor stadiums…

Originally classically trained, she has a string of certificates, awards and experience to her talent, including Performer’s Certificate Scholarship Awards on Violin, an Advanced Diploma in Acting and most recently, a Graduate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
However, it is her passion for jazz, soul and funk that prevails, and for entertaining the crowd  – be it through lush arrangements, sassy interpretations or her on-stage banter with husband and guitarist, Shami.

Amidst their busy gigging schedule, Charlotte Jane teaches singing, plays the congas and leads at The Embassy, Sydney’s urban gospel church in the south-west.

Shami Marandawela

Guitar

Shami Marandawela’s early playing was influenced by the 70′s and 80′s funk & gospel styles, but after many years of exploring sound and style, he has added the rich textures and complexities of jazz and blues.

Drawing from classic jazz influences such as Wes Montgomery and George Benson, combined with the current day blues players as John Mayer and BB King, Shami’s playing is colourful, melodic and especially soulful.

After completing a double major in Engineering and Computing from Melbourne’s Monash University, relocated to Sydney where he continued his passion for music by studying at Sydney’s Conservatory of Music.

In performance, the charisma, humour and stage presence of Shami’s style are a part of his appeal as a musician, as is the ever expanding technical skill and command of the guitar and music.
